I visited the home of Nathan's ancestor, Jubal Early today; the home is still undergoing an extensive and expensive restoration process and the inside was open for this weekend only because of all the work that still needs to be done. There were several people there dressed in Civil War attire to kick-off a walk from the location of the home in Boone's Mill/Rocky Mount, VA to Winchester, VA, over 100 miles away, to raise money for the restoration and to commerate Jubal Early's march thru the Shenandoah. The home consists of 2 floors with 4 or 5 rooms on the first and 2 or 3 on the second; some areas were blocked off so it was hard to get an accurate count on the number of rooms but the layout is pretty standard for homes of that era. There were also remnants of an old fireplace just off the house itself which is probably where the kitchen facilities were located. It was the practice at the time to keep the cooking area in a seperate building so the main house wouldn't become too hot in the summer and also so the odors created wouldn't permeate the rest of the home. Slaves would then bring food thru a side or back entrance and place the food in a serving area. I sent Darren some pictures to post, including 3 that appear to show "spirit orbs" in two of the rooms. Maybe the General is still around, keeping an eye on things.
