I've enjoyed Nathan on Two Guys and a Girl and Firefly and seem to follow him in his career. (By the way, I started to type Two Guys, a Girl and a Firefly, that would have been something.) lol I thought he was so great as the Captain in Firefly. By the way, hi Captain. I'm going to say that to him when I meet him at Dragon Con this year. I will be so nervous. He's so handsome and will just make me nervous. I hope I can speak at least a few words in front of him. I loved his relationship with the crew on Firefly and enjoyed watching their chemistry develop as a family crew. Keep up the good work and hope to see more Firefly after the movie. I feel it will be back on tv or else I want that to happen. Look forward to the movie and I'm enjoying the DVD of the shows that didn't air and ones I'd missed. It's a lot of fun to watch those shows of Firefly on DVD. Keep up the great work. You're a terrific actor and I love watching you as the Captain. Thanks Serenityfan

>what made it worse is that i spoke to Alan so i really hope Nathan wasnt offended <
Oh, FillionRules - I did much, much worse than that! There I was, having a little chat in the bar with the most amazing, most knee-dissolving actor in the world and what did I do? I asked about Sean. Because I am an idiot.
My brain was just on overload Nathan. I've thought you were brilliant in everything I've seen you in. Hated Caleb. Loved Mal. Laughed a lot at Johnny. Was really touched by Robert (the sniffle in the river - OMG!). Bought - yes, actually bought! - Dracula 2000 for your morally ambiguous preacher. Took Ryan seriously. Smirked at Cliff. And was irritated to find myself liking Adam.
The BDM is awesome and you are awesome in it.
Drat! Look, you made me say 'awesome'. Twice.

As you'd expect, Darren, he was very polite. But he has that very expressive face and I think I saw 'miffed' cross it.
*still cringing*
You laughed at Ryan? I know we were supposed to - I just couldn't. Sap that I am.

It's night here in California. Cool and still.
I've been thinking about the movie, Mal, and the actor who plays him. Joss Whedon has always had characters who touched me, but Mal is a singular creation singularly played.
I feel like Mal-- lost too many battles and too many friends. Only not so literally. Nathan's Mal lost his war, but survived it. As have I. Dreams dashed, hearts broken, and souls tattered-- we bear our scars and guilt in silence. And we keep going.
That's the thing about Mal, really. The bit that connects me to him on this level. It would be so much simpler to lay down arms. To run away or stay and assimilate. But the spirit rebels and we do more than endure. We keep our ship flying and claim what bit of sky and freedom is left to us. We search the edges of space for a kind of redemption. And know it may never come.
So thank you, Nathan Fillion, for giving this character in all his flawed glory to a world that needs him. Every piece of hope-- even a fictional man in a fictional universe-- firms the weary travelers steps. To see a man fall and rise again, face dirtied and bloodied but looking forward, is to borrow a strength we may not otherwise have had.
What you do is no small thing.
Thank you.
Keep flying.

Hi Nathan - longtime fan, shorttime lurker. Just wanted to say I was so moved by Serenity that I've set it upon myself to see every bit of your work...which could be a bit hard since I don't think Australia has access to old eps of One Life To Live! When are you coming Down Under?! In the meantime, please feel free to view captaintightpants.blogspot.com

I just wanted to volunteer to be Nathan's personal asstistant or his own personal eye doc (those blue eyes need attention). Also - who did the special effects contact lenses for Serenity?

Nathan, I just want to thank you for all the enthusiasm you've shared with the fans. It’s been a delight reading all your interviews and listening to your Firefly DVD commentary. And, of course, thank you for giving us Mal. I loved him in the series, everything from the tortured look on your face when the browncoats lost the war, to the way you fought with Inara, being gentle with Kaylee, shooting Dobson in the eye… you’re my favorite starship captain, without a doubt. If I loved Mal in the show, I… well, I have not the words for how much I enjoyed watching Mal in the movie. The way you played him so uncompromisingly…. He was who he was all the time, right or wrong, dark or darker. It was a joy. I really want to thank you for that. And for the shirtless scene. Seriously, though, Firefly and Serenity have been a wild ride. Reading all of your interviews has added so much to the experience. It’s so nice to find a star in a genre show who is so dedicated to the character, the show, and the message. Thank you so much. - Katie Fiorino

Just wanna say..... I'm pretty much new to all this... first clapped eyes on Firefly last year on Sci-fi channel and... well that was it....I fell in love with the series right from my first trip into their Verse. Was totally gutted when I found out that the series had been cut!!! How wude! But went into hyper mode when I heard bout the film coming out and dragged an uncertain friend along just as soon as I could. Film was absolutely wundies, loved it and can't wait til DVD comes out next month. Bought series on DVD recently and my friend... well lets just say she's fallen into the Verse as well....and like me just can't get enough of it!!! Not many of my friends have seen this series so know not of what I rant about... but those that do see it are immediate converts... just goes to show what a bunch of idjiots those folks at Fox were to let such a dynamic show go. Am hoping with everything crossed that the crew of Serenity get to fly again. In the meantime, Nathan..... have fun and may we see that handsome mug of yours on our screens for a long time to come. Many thanx. xxx

Not even sure if this is a live thread anymore, but here's hoping that Nathan Fillion still lurks and reads these posts. I missed Firefly on tv (bad marketing by Fox + having my first child that year = little to no tv watching for me) and I didn't see Serenity in the theater. But I rented all the DVDs and then promptly went out and bought them all as well. I am currently on my second round of viewing and experiencing a deep sense of loss at the death (? optimistically, the merely temporary vegetative state ?) of this series and film. I love this world and these characters and can't believe that they're gone. I just met them!
Nathan, if you read this, THANK YOU for what you made of the character of Mal Reynolds. He shouldn't be as likable as he is, but your handling makes him that way. You have a true talent. I haven't had this large a crush on a tv character since Jean Luc Picard back during my college days! Thanks, too, for apparently being such a nice guy in real life--the interviews and castmate comments I've read lead to the conclusion that you are a sincere person and a true friend--quite a rarity, particularly in certain fields.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for some type of life support for Firefly. Until then, Mal remains my hero and I'll be heading out so see anything new that is done by Joss or any of the cast!
Happy New Year!

Nathan, I too, am hoping that this thread is still active. I'm a 41-year-old woman married to a man who was turned on to Firefly about a year or so ago. I have to admit, though my hubby tried to interest me in the series on SciFi, I wasn't interested. Matter-of-fact...I would moan whenever he TiVo'd the show. Then came Christmas. My husband wanted the newly released series boxed set...and so did my brother. So I bought it for both of them. We celebrated Christmas on Dec. 13th ( my husband was leaving for Navy boot camp on the 14th...have I mentioned that he's 12 years younger than I am? Oh, well, no matter.) and he loved his Firefly DVD set. He asked me if I'd like to see the first episode...because I love him and he was leaving for 8 weeks and 5 days...I said sure. I have not been able to get enough of Captain Reynolds and his crew since then! I could beat myself in the head for not watching the show while it was actually on television! The ensemble cast is an excellent one! And I am very honestly appalled at the thought that it was canceled! What were they thinking? In conclusion I just wanted to say thank you for bringing life to a character that couldn't have been portrayed as well as you did. And thank you for bringing a light of infatuation to this 41-year-olds life! I'd forgotten what crushes were like! Here's to Nathan Fillion! Cheers!

Nate, I imagine that the best compliment I can give you is to tell you that you have truly done the incredible vision of Joss Whedon justice. I can't imagine anyone else taking the role of Capt.Reynolds and creating the depth of character you have. He's a bastard and a saint, cold as ice and passionate beyond belief. You have made Mal into a man we all can care about. Congratulations on finally getting a leading role truly worthy of a fine actor and for being skilled enough to make it your own. Love your work.
